Samsung Galaxy Pro combines 2.8-inch touchscreen with a portrait QWERTY keyboard, modest specs

Samsung has just taken the veils off yet another Android handset in its rapidly expanding portfolio, this one targeting those BlackBerry-addicted portrait QWERTY keyboard lovers. The Galaxy Pro squeezes a four-row button array beneath a set of Android keys and a 2.8-inch touchscreen, while its insides are filled with an 800MHz processor of an unspecified variety and a 3 megapixel cam with autofocus skills. UK carrier Three has already confirmed it'll be offering this Froyo handset -- via an unlisted YouTube video we've embedded for you after the break -- and others should soon be coming out with their own announcements and, eventually, pricing.

Update: Samsung has sent along its official press release and a full spec sheet. See them after the break.

Samsung GALAXY Pro is a touchscreen smartphone with QWERTY keyboard in candybar form factor. It runs Android 2.2 Froyo and has 2.8" display, 3MP autofocus camera, 800MHz processor, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth..

Even though rumours circulate that RIM may possibly give Android users a taste of its BBM instant messaging service, it’s still a long way off. For now, it’ll be the convenience of an instantly-accessible keyboard that will give it its appeal. and to let users access the phone by touch and kind email and messages.
The Galaxy Pro, joining other similar-looking devices from Motorola and acer, offers 3G with HSDPA (7.2Mbps), GPS, WiFi 802.11b/g n, accelerometer, compass, measuring 108.6×66.7×10.65mm and weighing 103g and ships with a 2GB memory card (expandable to 32GB). It’ll come with a 1350mAh battery offering up to 620 hours standby and up to 11 hours talktime.
It’s been more or less confirmed that Three UK will probably be picking up the Samsung Galaxy Pro, but they have not yet indicated price. For their sake, I hope it is highly affordable. Otherwise, the appeal of a physical keyboard isn’t exactly enough of a draw for a phone like this. No word yet on the Galaxy Pro’s availability for the United States of American.
